UnitStar can give you formulas to convert between two units, as well as historical information about how that unit came into being.
If you're travelling, you can produce handy conversion charts. These are in standard HTML format, so you can edit them, print them out, modify them, and even upload them. UnitStar is easily customizable, so if you ever come across a strange unit that UnitStar doesn't know, you can add it yourself. However, given the fact that UnitStar has information about over 450 units, this is very unlikely unless you've invented the unit yourself.
